Behind the scenes:

I mentioned it once and since then several interviewers have asked — yes, it’s true I shoot almost all of my characters without my pants on.

All those layers of makeup, wardrobe and the heat from the lights and running back-and-forth to adjust the camera — it makes going pant-less necessary.

Here’s a lighting test shot showing just that.

I performed as Grace Jones for tonight’s Match Game show. It challenged my improv, comedic timing, wit and celebrity impersonation skills. I feel I did her proud (video/photos to come soon). On another note, I always feel pretty right after I un-drag. Something about the remnants of makeup that make me feel like a pretty boy…

Still on Kauai. Some cool barber shop chairs I found in Koloa. Everyone was too busy shopping to notice me propping up my camera on some box and taking self portraits ha!

I will be the first to admit my makeup skills aren’t the best. Usually my acting and emoting saves the day, but tomorrow a magazine reporter is stopping by my studio to watch me transform into my characters for a magazine feature on me. Of course this makes me nervous. So I took this time to practice areas where I am weak. I just covered up one eyebrow for tonight. So far, so good.

Sometimes they’re drawings, sometimes they’re photographs, but they’re always inspiring to some degree — otherwise I wouldn’t favorite them ;) So congrats on being awesome and thanks for making this artist feel at home.

Truth is, I collect self portraits. You’ll often find me searching/tracking the Tumblr community for pictures people take of themselves. Sometimes they’re drawings, sometimes they’re photographs, but they’re always inspiring to some degree — otherwise I wouldn’t favorite them ;)
